This Fall has been a busy one, but lacking much of my beloved travel. I did get to spend the week of Thanksgiving in the Virginia area with my boyfriend and his family. Throughout the week, we ventured around to different nearby cities to see all of the coldness… I mean glories… of Virginia. I can’t help it. The Florida girl always comes out when dealing with weather that needs heavy coats!
Now typically people spend the day after Thanksgiving waking up early and fighting crowds for the cheapest deal in the mall. I, on the other hand, spent my Black Friday touring around one of my favorite cities in the U.S. – Washington, D.C. – with one of my favorite people in life. Yes, that would be my boyfriend – who is also a reason for the lack of posts more recently. He seems to keep me busy!
Random Side Note and Travel Tip: Driving into D.C. on the evening of Thanksgiving is the best idea ever. There was NO traffic and we were able accidentally get lost and then back on track with barely any major problems. I highly recommend coming to the city on Thanksgiving or Black Friday.
Anyway, back to the actual fun in D.C. Both of us have been to D.C. many times and we wanted to partake in some amazing local food for one of my favorite meals – BRUNCH! We headed to Founding Farmers D.C. courtesy of an UrbanSpoon recommendation as a nearby restaurant in the Foggy Bottom area. I cannot speak highly enough of the yumminess at Founding Farmers. This restaurant, owned by a group of farmers, strives to provide fresh food including local goodness.
To start off, I loved the speciality made scratch soda – the Strawberry Soda. It was reminiscent of a bubbly strawberry lemonade and amazing at every sip.
We decided to share our entrees in order to taste as much awesomeness as possible in one sitting. My boyfriend choose the quasi healthy Drag Through The Garden Pan Scrambles which consisted of egg whites, seasonal vegetables, spinach, and white cheddar cheese. The side of hash browns had a light smokey delicious taste, that I may have eaten more than my fair share of…
Of course I had to go with the dessert like breakfast option – Buttermilk Blueberry Pancakes with Whipped Blueberry Butter. These were outrageously amazing. Full size blueberries were baked into the fluffy pancakes and there was plenty of the Blueberry Butter to cover the three large pancakes. The syrup tasted differently from the normal main stream Mrs. Butterworth, which just added to the reasons why I loved the pancakes. I also order a side of Glazed Bacon, which had me wanting more (since I promised to only eat one of the three pieces before it came out. I don’t normally seek out bacon, much to my boyfriend’s delight since he can take all of mine. I know, heresy as a breakfast lover, but I don’t normally go for bacon.) Founding Farmers’ bacon was thick, not too crispy, and smokey. Basically, the strips of bacon was just heavenly. I seriously want to head back to this place in the near future or petition for an Orlando location!
